12 Steps 2 Radiance | Blog/Clinical-to-Coaching/The Next Three Years Will Separate Coaches Who Last From Coaches Who Don't

The divide is going to become more visible because the enforcement infrastructure is finally catching up to the size of the industry.

Something is happening in the health and wellness coaching space that most people haven't named yet.

The industry is splitting.

On one side: coaches who built fast, built loud, made claims they couldn't substantiate, and grew audiences on the back of language that felt powerful but wasn't defensible. A lot of those coaches had great content. Some of them built real communities. Many of them are gone now. Accounts deleted, ad accounts banned, some facing regulatory action they didn't see coming.

On the other side: coaches who built slower, built carefully, built from a foundation that could actually hold weight.

The divide is going to become more visible over the next three years. Not because the rules are changing arbitrarily, but because the enforcement infrastructure is finally catching up to the size of the industry.

What's Actually Happening

The FTC published new Health Products Compliance Guidance in December 2022 that significantly tightened the standards for health claims. Not suggestions. Standards. Randomized controlled trials as the new bar for substantiating efficacy claims. Testimonials that don't disclose typical results are a liability. Before-and-after photos with no context are a liability. The word “cure” in a caption is a liability.

Meta, as we've seen, is enforcing at scale, and it is automated and continuous. What changed this year is the reach. The system now flags the careful, indirect phrasing coaches use, not just the obvious claims, and it does it without a complaint or a hearing. This is not a one-time crackdown. It's the direction of the platform. The algorithms that flag health content are getting more sophisticated, not less. Platform-specific trigger words like “cortisol,” “testosterone reset,” and “reverse your anxiety” are being actively moderated on TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. The platforms are not going to become more permissive. They're going to become more precise.

State licensing boards are emboldened. The Del Castillo case didn't just uphold Florida's dietetics law. It signaled to licensing boards across the country that the courts will support them. Enforcement actions against coaches and wellness practitioners have increased. Competitors filing complaints about unlicensed practice has become a documented pattern.

And for dual-credentialed professionals, the nurses, NPs, PTs, and dietitians building coaching businesses, the stakes are higher than they are for unlicensed coaches. Because when something goes wrong, you don't just lose a business. You risk the license you spent years earning.

What Coaches Who Last Are Doing Differently

They're not more cautious in the moment. They built differently from the start.

Their content doesn't require constant review because the language was built scope-safe from the beginning. Their bios don't make claims that can't be substantiated. Their coaching agreements create the legal separation between their clinical credential and their coaching role. Their session language doesn't drift into diagnostic territory because they built a framework that keeps them on the right side of the line, not out of fear, but out of clarity.

They know the difference between a structure-function claim and a disease claim. They know which states have safe harbor laws and how those protections work. They know what the Three Trigger Categories are and how to run a scope check on any piece of content before it goes out.

They also know something else: that scope-safe language and algorithm-safe language are the same language. The words that protect your license are the same words that protect your reach. Cleaning up your content isn't just a legal move. It's a growth move.

This Is the Window

Right now, most coaches in your space don't know what you're about to know.

The regulatory environment is getting sharper. The platform enforcement is getting more systematic. The coaches who are building right now, the ones putting the framework in place before they need it, are going to be the ones still standing in three years when the dust settles.

That window is open. It won't be open forever.

Knowing the Line is the course I built specifically for credentialed health professionals navigating this moment. Five modules. The trigger categories. The dual-credential dilemma. The Three-Question Scope Check. The disclosure language. The framework for building scope safety in from the start rather than retrofitting it later.

It's $97. It's a few hours of your time.

And it's the kind of thing that pays for itself the first time you catch a piece of content before it goes out, or the first time you post with confidence instead of anxiety, because you know the language is built right.

The coaches who last are the ones who build from a foundation that holds.
